Welcome to Allerdale 100

A Black Knight Historical project, in association with Allerdale Borough Council

On the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, we remember the people of Allerdale who gave their lives to the greatest conflict the world had ever seen. But not just service personnel who lost their lives. Factory workers, miners, farmers, dockers, munitions workers, nurses – all who did their bit.

Young soldier alone in thought.

It’s estimated that 22,000 Cumbrian soldiers died in World War One, and there is no parish in the region that did not lose young men to the horrors of war.  Allerdale 100 is a local history and arts project funded by Allerdale Borough Council, and will involve local schools, community groups and individuals working together to ensure that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

On 1st November 2018 our grand memorial event will see a tribute created by the community placed in the Carnegie Centre, Workington.
